About the Artist

Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was one of the most renowned polymaths in history, excelling as a painter, sculptor, architect, scientist, engineer, and inventor during the Italian Renaissance. Born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy, he is best known for iconic works such as the "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper." Leonardo's artistic career flourished in Florence, where he created numerous masterpieces. He became known for his innovative techniques, such as sfumato (a subtle blending of colors) and chiaroscuro (the use of light and shadow). Leonardo spent his final years in France under the patronage of King Francis I. Despite struggling with health issues, he continued to work on various projects until his death on May 2, 1519.
