About the Artist
Jack Vettriano
Jack Vettriano, born Jack Hoggan in 1951 in Fife, Scotland, is a self-taught painter known for his cinematic and romantic style. He began painting at 21 after receiving a watercolor set as a gift and taught himself by copying art books. Adopting his mother’s maiden name in the late 1980s, Vettriano gained recognition in 1989 when two of his works sold on the first day of the Royal Scottish Academy’s exhibition. His best-known painting, *The Singing Butler* (1992), became one of the UK’s top-selling prints. Though commercially successful, his work has drawn mixed reviews from critics.
