SALVADOR DALI Reflection of Elephants, 2001

This is a reproduction of "Swans Reflecting Elephants" (1937) by Salvador Dalí, one of his most famous and visually intriguing works, employing his signature paranoiac-critical method to create double images that challenge perception and reality. This oil painting on canvas exemplifies Dalí's ability to merge nature and the subconscious into a dreamlike composition filled with symbolic meaning.

The double imagery is a hallmark of Dalí’s exploration of the subconscious mind and Freudian theories of hidden meanings. The contrast between the delicate swans and the massive elephants may represent inner conflicts or contrasts within one’s psyche.

About the Artist

Salvador Dali

Salvador Dalí (1904–1989) was a Spanish surrealist artist known for his technical skill, precise draftsmanship, and bizarre, dreamlike imagery. Born in Figueres, Catalonia, he studied fine arts in Madrid and was influenced by Impressionism, Renaissance masters, and later Cubism and Surrealism. He joined the Surrealist group in 1929 and rose to prominence with works like The Persistence of Memory (1931). Dalí lived in France during the Spanish Civil War and moved to the U.S. in 1940, achieving commercial success before returning to Spain in 1948. His work spanned painting, sculpture, film, and writing, often exploring dreams, science, religion, and personal themes.
