About the Artist
Helmut Newton
Helmut Newton (1920–2004) was a renowned German photographer, famous for his fashion work with *Vogue* and his provocative nude photography. Born in Berlin to a Jewish family, he began photography at 12 and worked as an apprentice to theater photographer Yva. Fleeing Nazi Germany in 1938, he served in the Australian army during WWII before opening a studio. In the 1950s, he gained fame working for *French Vogue*, *Harper's Bazaar*, *Playboy*, and others. Newton split his time between Monte Carlo and Los Angeles and died in a car crash in 2003. He received numerous accolades, including the German Kodak Award and a Life Legend Award.
