About the Artist

Ernest Trova

Ernest Trova (1927–2009) was a self-taught American surrealist and pop artist known for his signature "Falling Man" series, featuring an armless human figure. Born in Missouri, Trova was influenced by poetry and corresponded with Ezra Pound. He spent his life in the St. Louis area, where he has a star on the Walk of Fame. Trova's work, spanning paintings, sculptures, and prints, reflected his views on human imperfection and surrealism. He used comic character toys in some pieces and often cast sculptures in white bronze. His gift of 40 works helped establish the Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis.
