Original exhibition invitation for John M. Armleder at Almine Rech Gallery, Paris, held from June 6 – July 28. The invitation features the image Pruniers Fleuris (Plum Tree Blossoms), a poetic nod to natural motifs filtered through Armleder’s distinctive conceptual lens. Presented in a white wood frame with a .75-inch front face profile, this piece of exhibition ephemera is both minimalist and refined, reflecting the artist’s ability to blur the boundaries between design and art. As with much of Armleder’s work, the invitation stands as more than a simple announcement—it captures his layered dialogue with abstraction, chance, and the merging of art with the everyday, making it an elegant and collectible artifact from the artist’s career.

About the Artist

John M Armleder

John M. Armleder (b. 1948, Geneva, Switzerland) is a Swiss contemporary artist known for his diverse practice spanning painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and design. A key figure in postmodern art, Armleder emerged in the 1960s as a founding member of the Fluxus-influenced Groupe Ecart, where he explored chance, collaboration, and the merging of art with everyday life. Over the decades, his work has evolved to encompass what he calls “Furniture Sculptures”—juxtapositions of everyday furniture with abstract painting—blurring the lines between functional object and fine art. His visual language incorporates geometric abstraction, references to modernist traditions, and elements of appropriation, positioning his work in dialogue with movements such as Constructivism, Minimalism, and Pop Art. Armleder’s art often embraces randomness and accident, allowing materials, environments, and contexts to shape the outcome. This openness reflects his long-standing interest in Fluxus ideals, where art is not fixed but fluid and experiential. Exhibited internationally, his works have been presented at leading institutions and galleries, including the Centre Pompidou, MoMA, and Almine Rech. Today, John M. Armleder is celebrated for his ability to merge rigorous formalism with playfulness and irony, creating a body of work that resists categorization yet remains influential in contemporary discourse.
