Bold color and sweeping gestures give Gerhard Richter’s Abstraktes Bild (Abstract Painting), 1983, Werk 522-3, a vivid sense of movement. Broad passages of yellow and green meet cool blue-gray areas, while pink, white, and red strokes cut across darker forms. Reproducing the layered appearance of the original painting, the image reveals a lively interplay of scraped surfaces, flowing marks, and unexpected contrasts. Its vertical composition makes a striking focal point, with details that reward a closer look.

Published by DACO Verlag in a limited edition of 500, each sheet is individually hand-numbered. This reproduction is produced using a five-color hybrid printing process on substantial 260 gsm Rives fine art paper, with a sheet size of approximately 27.6 × 39.4 inches. Its generous scale gives the composition room to make an impact, whether displayed on its own or alongside other collected works. For admirers of Richter’s abstract paintings, it offers an accessible way to bring their color and expressive energy into an everyday living space.

About the Artist

Gerhard Richter

Gerhard Richter (b. 1932) is a German visual artist. Richter has produced abstract as well as photorealistic paintings, and also photographs and glass pieces. His art follows the examples of Picasso and Jean Arp in undermining the concept of the artist's obligation to maintain a single cohesive style. Nearly all of Richter's work demonstrates both illusionistic space that seems natural and the physical activity and material of painting—as mutual interferences. For Richter, reality is the combination of new attempts to understand—to represent; in his case, to paint—the world surrounding us. “Since there is no such thing as absolute rightness and truth, we always pursue the artificial, leading, human truth. We judge and make a truth that excludes other truths. Art plays a formative part in this manufacture of truth.”
