Bold color and unexpected depth make Gerhard Richter’s *Abstraktes Bild (Abstract Painting)*, 1984, Werk 563-1, a compelling focal point. A vivid red rectangle meets a shifting blue ground, while diagonal forms and contrasting passages of yellow and green draw the eye across the composition. The interplay of geometric shapes and expressive marks gives the image a restless energy, offering something new to notice each time you return to it. It’s a natural choice for anyone looking to bring color, movement, and personality into a room.

Published by DACO Verlag in a limited edition of 500, this reproduction translates Richter’s 1984 painting into a five-color hybrid print on substantial 260 gsm Rives fine art paper. Measuring approximately 31.5 × 23.6 inches, the sheet offers a generous format for displaying the composition’s rich contrasts. Framed above a console or paired with quieter furnishings, it can anchor a space while offering an accessible way to collect an image from Richter’s celebrated abstract practice.

About the Artist

Gerhard Richter

Gerhard Richter (b. 1932) is a German visual artist. Richter has produced abstract as well as photorealistic paintings, and also photographs and glass pieces. His art follows the examples of Picasso and Jean Arp in undermining the concept of the artist's obligation to maintain a single cohesive style. Nearly all of Richter's work demonstrates both illusionistic space that seems natural and the physical activity and material of painting—as mutual interferences. For Richter, reality is the combination of new attempts to understand—to represent; in his case, to paint—the world surrounding us. “Since there is no such thing as absolute rightness and truth, we always pursue the artificial, leading, human truth. We judge and make a truth that excludes other truths. Art plays a formative part in this manufacture of truth.”
