JONAS WOOD Large Shelf, Still Life, 2017

Jonas Wood’s *Large Shelf Still Life* transforms an overflowing display of plants, ceramics, basketballs and personal objects into a vibrant portrait of contemporary life. Rendered in bold color and flattened perspective, the crowded shelves seem to tilt toward the viewer, allowing every object to compete for attention.

The composition brings together several of Wood’s most recognizable subjects, from lush houseplants and sports imagery to the patterned ceramic vessels closely associated with the work of his wife, artist Shio Kusaka. Familiar objects become a lively arrangement of color, line and pattern, blurring the boundary between a recognizable interior and near abstraction.

This offset lithograph was created especially for Wood and Kusaka’s joint exhibition at Museum Voorlinden in the Netherlands, held from 2017 to 2018. Printed in color to the edges of the sheet and bearing the artists’ and museum’s ink stamp on the reverse, it is an engaging and highly decorative example of Wood’s distinctive visual world.
