Freilicher, Jane
JANE FREILICHER In Broad Daylight, 1980
Freilicher was a key figure of the New York School and a major proponent of "painterly realism". This work is a classic example of her signature "window-scape" composition, which juxtaposes an intimate interior still life (vases of flowers on a wooden table) with a sweeping exterior landscape (the flat farmlands of Water Mill, Long Island)
The poster commemorates her 1980 solo exhibition at the Fischbach Gallery, then located at 29 West 57th Street in New York. The painting has since been featured in various major publications and exhibitions, including the cover of Katherine Anne Porter: The Collected Stories.
