This vintage exhibition poster was created for Robert Motherwell: The Music Collages, presented by the Montclair Art Museum from November 19, 1989 through January 7, 1990. It features a reproduction of Cor Anglais (1976), a dynamic work by Robert Motherwell.

A leading figure of the Abstract Expressionist movement, Motherwell is celebrated for his ability to fuse gesture, structure, and intellectual rigor. In Cor Anglais, the artist explores the intersection of visual art and music—an enduring theme in his oeuvre—through bold forms, layered textures, and expressive mark-making. The composition suggests rhythm and tonal variation, echoing the musical reference in its title.

Published in conjunction with this focused exhibition, the poster reflects the Montclair Art Museum’s commitment to presenting key developments in modern American art. Produced in the pre-digital poster era, it embodies the quality and clarity associated with exhibition posters of the period.

A compelling and collectible piece for admirers of Abstract Expressionism, as well as collectors of museum exhibition posters tied to important late 20th-century artists.
