Part of Dwight Baird’s early 1990s For the Love of the Game series, The Catcher is a pencil-signed and numbered edition, capturing the enduring spirit of America’s pastime. Baird described this work as portraying a "classic catcher pose...after the sign is given, waiting for the all-important pitch to end the game...another win in the books, and another winning image in The Baseball Collection." With exceptional attention to detail, Baird conveys the intense focus and quiet anticipation of the catcher, his stance embodying both strength and concentration. This piece is a striking addition for sports art collectors and baseball enthusiasts, reflecting Baird’s passion and reverence for the game.

About the Artist

Dwight Baird

Canadian born artist Dwight Baird has been painting full-time for the last forty-five years. For the last twenty years, Baird has been working in acrylics, developing a new style of contemporary realism - mixing broad impressionist brush strokes combined with specific detailed areas in his work. He is also a member of the Canadian Watercolour Society. Baird has produced an extensive series of pieces on Cuba, depicting many facets of the daily struggle throughout the country. These works are not only a dramatic illustration of the challenges of urban life but also a historical documentation of a country striving for dramatic change - a pictorial record of a time in their history which will never be seen again.
