Tom Otterness's offset lithograph print, titled "9/11," serves as a poignant tribute to the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Hand-signed and dated by the artist, this piece features a small, characteristic cartoon figure rendered in pencil, adding a personal touch to the composition. While the edition is not numbered, the print stands as a heartfelt expression of Otterness's grief and reflection.

In this work, Otterness depicts a solitary figure amidst the ruins of the fallen Twin Towers, encapsulating the profound sense of loss and devastation experienced during that time. The artist's signature cartoon-like style, often employed to deliver social commentary, here conveys deep emotional resonance.

Reflecting on the impact of 9/11, Otterness described the experience as "a kind of science fiction moment" for New York City, noting the eeriness of deserted streets and the surreal atmosphere that pervaded the city. He observed, "It was like those '50s science fiction movies where all of New York has no cars... America has never had war on its soil, and so I think it is the first example... to have that brought home."

Through this print, Otterness channels his personal grief and the collective mourning of a city forever changed, offering viewers a visual meditation on resilience and remembrance.
