This rare mixed media serigraph by Elba Alvarez is a compelling example of the artist’s dynamic and visually engaging style. Hand signed and designated “A.P.” (Artist Proof), this impression represents a select portion of the edition, traditionally reserved for the artist and often considered among the most desirable examples.

Titled Kōryū (Flow Intersection), the composition captures a moment of convergence—fluid, sweeping lines intersect and dissolve across a soft geometric field, evoking both motion and balance. The interplay between structure and spontaneity reflects Alvarez’s signature approach, where controlled abstraction meets lyrical expression.

Created during a period when Alvarez’s work was widely collected and exhibited internationally, the piece embodies the refined decorative abstraction that defined the late 1980s and early 1990s. Subtle mixed media elements enrich the surface with depth and luminosity, enhancing the visual rhythm and giving the work a tactile, almost dimensional quality.

Highly popular during its time and distributed globally through galleries and design spaces, Alvarez’s work continues to resonate today, offering both a sense of nostalgia and a timeless modern aesthetic.

Professionally framed in white wood and double matted, the piece is presented in a clean, contemporary format that complements its elegant composition. Ready to hang, it offers an immediate gallery-quality presentation.

A desirable and increasingly collectible work that captures the spirit of a moment when contemporary printmaking and interior design converged on a global stage.

About the Artist

Elba Alvarez

Elba Alvarez (1944 - ) is a Venezuelan abstract painter, born in Pedernales. At the age of 18 she went to Europe and studied in Paris. She came to the United States in 1968 carrying the ideas and visions which would fill her canvases with bold, striking colors. The paintings that Alvarez created caused gallery after gallery to lavish high praise for her innovative and provocative abstracts. She was encouraged to set up a studio in New York City. Through years of study and experimentation her talents have evolved into a highly unique and engrossing style of painting. Alvarez was represented by Robert Aaron Young and Center Art Galleries, and has had major shows worldwide.
