This original 1989 exhibition poster was produced for Claes Oldenburg: Dibujos 1959–1989, held at the IVAM Centre Julio González in Valencia, Spain. Featuring two of Oldenburg’s expressive working drawings—an automotive study and a soft sculpture sketch—the poster captures the artist’s signature fusion of the everyday and the monumental.

The upper image depicts a meticulously drafted automobile form overlaid with taped elements and handwritten notations, reflecting Oldenburg’s fascination with scale, structure, and transformation. The lower drawing presents one of his iconic “soft” objects rendered in fluid blue tones, illustrating his playful yet technically rigorous approach to reimagining familiar items.

Printed on high-quality stock with a deep black background and crisp typography, this poster stands as a striking historical document from a major survey of Oldenburg’s three decades of drawing practice.

A collectible piece of late-20th-century art ephemera—ideal for enthusiasts of Pop Art, draftsmanship, and museum-exhibition graphics.

About the Artist

Claes Oldenburg

Claes Oldenburg (1929 -2022 ) is a Swedish born American sculptor, best known for his public art installations typically featuring large replicas of everyday objects. Another theme in his work is soft sculpture versions of everyday objects. In the 1960s Oldenburg became associated with the Pop Art movement and created many so-called happenings, which were performance art related productions of that time. The name he gave to his own productions was "Ray Gun Theater". His brash, often humorous, approach to art was at great odds with the prevailing sensibility that, by its nature, art dealt with "profound" expressions or ideas. But Oldenburg's spirited art found first a niche then a great popularity that endures to this day.
