Terry O'Neil

Terry O'Neill is widely recognized for his contributions to photography, particularly in the realms of portraiture and landscape. His ability to capture the essence of his subjects, whether people or places, has made his work highly respected and sought after. Terry O'Neill (1938-2019) was a distinguished British photographer renowned for capturing the essence of the 1960s and 1970s. His career took off when he began photographing emerging faces in the film, fashion, and music scenes, helping to define the era known as "Swinging London." O'Neill's unique ability to take candid and unconventional portraits set him apart, allowing him to photograph numerous iconic figures such as Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, David Bowie, Elton John, and every James Bond actor from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig. O'Neill's work extended beyond celebrities; he also photographed prominent political figures like Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela, as well as contemporary icons such as Amy Winehouse and Nicole Kidman. His intimate and unposed portraits provided a fresh and honest perspective, making his photographs widely recognized and celebrated. Throughout his career, O'Neill received several accolades, including the Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal in 2011. His work is held in prestigious collections worldwide, and he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2019 for his services to photography. Terry O'Neill passed away in November 2019, leaving behind a legacy of influential and evocative photography​
