This museum poster, created for the 96 NYE VÆRKER exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark, features Borderland State by Alex Da Corte, an artist known for his surreal, pop-infused imagery. The composition presents a parrot delicately holding an earring in its beak, perched atop what appears to be a geometric circular form.

The inclusion of major contemporary artists like Andreas Gursky, Franz West, Cindy Sherman, Julie Mehretu, Gerhard Richter, Subodh Gupta, and Yoko Ono in the exhibition contextualizes Da Corte’s work within a broader dialogue on modern visual culture. This striking poster, with its full-bleed image and exhibition text, captures the essence of Borderland State—a dreamlike fusion of playfulness and psychological depth, making it an intriguing piece for contemporary art enthusiasts.

About the Artist

Alex Da Corte

Informed by the tenets of Pop art and Surrealism, multimedia artist Alex Da Corte creates campy, neon-hued riffs on contemporary culture; his references range from Frankenstein’s monster and the film Scream (1996) to Heinz ketchup. His exuberant installations, videos, sculptures, paintings, and performances often consider consumerism and advertising clichés of middle America. Da Corte has made metal grids covered in basketball shoes, a home constructed from neon lights, and a giant, inflatable baby. The artist often acts in his own videos and has played Eminem, Mr. Rogers, and Popeye. He completed his MFA at Yale in 2010. Since then, Da Corte has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Vienna, Stockholm, Rotterdam, and beyond.
