This untitled image by Robert Mapplethorpe features Ken Moody, captured in the photographer’s unmistakable black-and-white aesthetic. Originally published in a 1991 box set by teNeues Publishing Company and printed in Germany, the portrait exemplifies Mapplethorpe’s mastery of light, form, and composition. Known for his refined visual language and classical rigor, Mapplethorpe often explored identity, race, and beauty through his tightly composed portraits.

Presented in a white wood frame with a front profile of 1 inch and a side profile of 3/4 inch, mounted behind a 4-inch mat, this piece exudes elegance and emotional gravity. The striking simplicity of the portrait, combined with Mapplethorpe’s bold photographic voice, makes this image a compelling addition to any art-focused interior or modern photography collection.

About the Artist

Robert Mapplethorpe

Robert Mapplethorpe (1946–1989) was an American photographer renowned for his striking black-and-white images and his exploration of controversial subjects. His work included celebrity portraits, self-portraits, male and female nudes, and elegant floral still lifes. Best known for combining technical precision with provocative content, Mapplethorpe helped spark national debates about art, censorship, and public funding through his photographs of New York’s underground BDSM scene. He was also a close friend and frequent collaborator of musician Patti Smith, whose iconic *Horses* album cover features one of his photographs.
