Philipp Lachenmann, born in 1963 in Munich, Germany, is a German conceptual artist and art historian. He initially pursued law at Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich but shifted focus to complete a diploma as a modeler in architecture and design. He then studied documentary film at the Academy for Film and Television (HFF) in Munich, and art history and philosophy at LMU. Later, he undertook postgraduate studies in audiovisual media at the Academy for Media Arts (KHM) in Cologne.
