Harold Altman

Harold Altman (1924–2003) was an American artist renowned for his lithographs, etchings, and drawings that primarily depict landscapes, particularly parks and urban spaces. Born in New York City, Altman studied at the Art Students League of New York and the Black Mountain College in North Carolina. He later served in the United States Army during World War II before continuing his education at the Cooper Union and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. Altman’s work is characterized by its detailed and evocative portrayal of serene environments, often capturing the changing seasons and the tranquil beauty of everyday scenes. His prints and drawings are celebrated for their precision, use of light, and atmospheric qualities, which reflect a deep appreciation for nature and the human experience within it.
