About the Artist

Mark English

Mark English (1933–2019) was a distinguished American illustrator and painter, celebrated for his unique style that seamlessly blended classical elegance with modern sensibilities. Born on September 19, 1933, in Hubbard, Texas, English's artistic journey began after his service in the Korean War. He graduated with honors from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, in 1960, earning a BFA in Advertising Design. In the 1960s, English's distinctive illustrations graced the pages of prominent publications such as TIME, Sports Illustrated, Redbook, Atlantic Monthly, and Rolling Stone. His work extended beyond magazines; he designed 14 stamps for the U.S. Postal Service and created movie posters and album covers for artists including John Denver, Julian Lennon, and The Who. English's contributions to illustration were recognized with numerous accolades, making him the most awarded illustrator in the history of New York City's Society of Illustrators. In 1983, he was inducted into their Hall of Fame, joining the ranks of luminaries such as Norman Rockwell and N.C. Wyeth. Mark English passed away on August 8, 2019, in Kansas City, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of artistic excellence that continues to inspire illustrators and painters alike
