Raul Colon

Raúl Colón is an acclaimed illustrator and artist known for his vibrant and expressive works. Raúl Colón is an American illustrator known for his distinctive artwork in children's literature. Born in New York City, he was raised in Puerto Rico, where he studied commercial art. In 1978, he moved to Miami to work at an educational television center, and a decade later, he settled in New York to pursue a freelance illustration career. Throughout his career, Colón has illustrated over 30 children's books, earning accolades such as the Golden Kite Award, Pura Belpré Awards, and recognition from the Society of Illustrators. His unique technique involves layering watercolor washes on textured paper, followed by the use of colored pencils and a scratchboard tool to create rich textures and vibrant colors.
