BENTON SPRUANCE Epilogue from Moby Dick, 1968
One of twenty-six color lithographs from the collection Moby Dick: Passion of Ahab, a series by Benton Murdoch Spruance. Spruance passed away unexpectedly before the completion of this publication.
This work is an interpretation of the original lithographs, not an original printed directly from the stone by Spruance. It was published posthumously and priced accordingly. The collection, originally issued in 1968 by Barre Publishers, Barre, Massachusetts, was accompanied by a booklet with text by Lawrance Thompson, drawing connections between Spruance’s imagery and excerpts from Moby Dick by Herman Melville.
