In The Rocket's Red Glare, Dwight Baird pays tribute to the Boston Red Sox by subtly incorporating legendary jersey numbers into his artwork. The numbers and their likely references are:

#9 - Ted Williams: "The Splendid Splinter," one of the greatest hitters in MLB history and a Red Sox icon.

#8 - Carl Yastrzemski: "Yaz," a Hall of Famer known for his Triple Crown season and leadership in the 1967 "Impossible Dream" season.

#21 - Roger Clemens: "The Rocket," a dominant pitcher and multiple Cy Young Award winner during his time with the Red Sox.

#42 - Jackie Robinson: While retired league-wide in honor of Robinson's barrier-breaking legacy, #42 remains a symbol of equality and inspiration.

Baird’s artwork celebrates the Red Sox’s storied history and its players’ enduring impact on the game, blending artistry with the team’s legacy.

About the Artist

Dwight Baird

Canadian born artist Dwight Baird has been painting full-time for the last forty-five years. For the last twenty years, Baird has been working in acrylics, developing a new style of contemporary realism - mixing broad impressionist brush strokes combined with specific detailed areas in his work. He is also a member of the Canadian Watercolour Society. Baird has produced an extensive series of pieces on Cuba, depicting many facets of the daily struggle throughout the country. These works are not only a dramatic illustration of the challenges of urban life but also a historical documentation of a country striving for dramatic change - a pictorial record of a time in their history which will never be seen again.
