This reproduction of Redbirds of a Feather by Dwight Baird from the Baseball Collection in the early 1990s cleverly avoids direct references to specific players while honoring the legacy of the Baltimore Orioles. By subtly including jersey numbers, Baird nods to some of the team's greatest players. For the trivia-minded, the numbers likely correspond to:

#9 - Frank Robinson: Legendary outfielder and Hall of Famer, key to the Orioles' success in the 1960s and 1970s.

#45 - Mike Cuellar: A standout pitcher and Cy Young winner who was a cornerstone of the Orioles' rotation in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

#20 - Brooks Robinson: "The Human Vacuum Cleaner," one of the greatest defensive third basemen of all time.

#1 - Earl Weaver: The Orioles' iconic manager, known for his fiery personality and tactical brilliance.

Baird’s art pays subtle tribute to these Orioles legends, blending creativity with nostalgia for baseball fans.

About the Artist

Dwight Baird

Canadian born artist Dwight Baird has been painting full-time for the last forty-five years. For the last twenty years, Baird has been working in acrylics, developing a new style of contemporary realism - mixing broad impressionist brush strokes combined with specific detailed areas in his work. He is also a member of the Canadian Watercolour Society. Baird has produced an extensive series of pieces on Cuba, depicting many facets of the daily struggle throughout the country. These works are not only a dramatic illustration of the challenges of urban life but also a historical documentation of a country striving for dramatic change - a pictorial record of a time in their history which will never be seen again.
