Souterrain Baroque #13 is a proof created by Hans Bellmer for a limited edition of 100. Printed on BFK Rives paper, this piece reflects Bellmer’s signature Surrealist aesthetic, marked by distorted, dreamlike forms and themes of desire and obsession. As a proof, it represents a preliminary version used to finalize the design for the official edition. Proofs are often rarer than numbered editions, making this a valuable collectible for fans of 20th-century Surrealism and erotic art.

About the Artist

Hans Bellmer

Hans Bellmer (1902–1975) was a German artist and Surrealist photographer best known for his provocative life-sized dolls of pubescent girls, created in the 1930s. Born in Kattowitz (now Katowice, Poland), Bellmer worked as a draftsman before turning to art full-time. Inspired by Oskar Kokoschka’s Der Fetisch and shaped by personal experiences—including tensions with his authoritarian father and a fascination with childhood and desire—Bellmer’s work challenged social and political norms, particularly those of fascist Germany.
