About the Artist

Patrick Nagel

During his prolific but brief career, American artist Patrick Nagel (1945-1984 ) created over 400 paintings and illustrations. At the forefront of a new wave of illustration in Los Angeles in the late 1970’s and early 80’s, Nagel helped re-imagine the graphic arts and helped make Los Angeles the epicenter of award-winning visual arts. Nagel was also influenced by fashion photography of Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton, as well as the music videos by David Bowie, Robert Palmer and George Michael, even creating the album cover art of Duran Duran.
