This rare exhibition poster features a reproduction of a work by Oskar Schlemmer and was published as part of the celebrated Collection of European Masters series for the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen by Achenbach Art Edition.

A central figure of the Bauhaus movement, Schlemmer is best known for his visionary exploration of the relationship between the human figure, geometry, architecture, and performance. His work merged painting, theater, dance, and design into a uniquely modern visual language that became one of the defining aesthetics of early 20th-century modernism.

The composition reproduced here exemplifies Schlemmer’s unmistakable style. Elongated, sculptural figures occupy a carefully ordered interior space, their simplified forms rendered with an almost architectural clarity. The restrained palette, balanced geometry, and subtle spatial tension create an atmosphere that feels simultaneously elegant, introspective, and theatrical. Reflections and repeated forms introduce a sense of psychological ambiguity, while the sharply defined planes and stylized anatomy reflect the Bauhaus fascination with harmony between humanity and modern design.

Published in Europe during the pre-digital poster era, this piece reflects the refined printing standards associated with museum-issued exhibition posters of the late 20th century. The minimalist layout and generous white margins enhance the modernist quality of the image while allowing Schlemmer’s composition to command full visual attention.

The Collection of European Masters series became highly regarded among collectors for its focus on important modern European artists and its exceptional production quality. The association with the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen—renowned for its holdings of modern and postwar art, including works by Wassily Kandinsky and Pablo Picasso—further reinforces the historical and institutional significance of the poster.

A sophisticated and highly decorative work, ideal for collectors of Bauhaus design, German modernism, and important museum exhibition posters.
