This iconic poster features Back Where You Belong by Jack Vettriano, published in 2001. One of Vettriano’s most recognizable compositions, the image captures a cinematic moment of reunion, romance, and emotional intensity.

Set against a glowing, amber-lit interior, a couple embraces in a passionate kiss. The woman, dressed in a striking red dress, is lifted slightly off the ground, her leg bent in a gesture that heightens the sense of spontaneity and desire. In her hand, she clutches a bouquet of flowers—an emblem of longing fulfilled—while a suitcase at their feet suggests arrival, departure, or the closing of emotional distance. The scene is framed by a large window, where the warm light creates a theatrical backdrop reminiscent of film noir and mid-century romantic drama.

Vettriano’s work is celebrated for its narrative clarity and nostalgic atmosphere, drawing heavily on the visual language of cinema, advertising, and popular culture. His figures are elegant yet relatable, staged in moments that feel both intimate and universally understood. This piece, in particular, has become emblematic of his appeal—combining glamour, storytelling, and emotional immediacy.

Printed in the pre-digital era, this poster retains the rich tonal depth and saturated color that contribute to its strong decorative presence. Widely collected and instantly recognizable, Vettriano’s imagery continues to resonate with a broad audience, making his works highly desirable in both contemporary and traditional interiors.

A compelling and timeless composition, ideal for collectors of modern figurative art and those drawn to evocative, narrative-driven imagery.

About the Artist

Jack Vettriano

Jack Vettriano, born Jack Hoggan in 1951 in Fife, Scotland, is a self-taught painter known for his cinematic and romantic style. He began painting at 21 after receiving a watercolor set as a gift and taught himself by copying art books. Adopting his mother’s maiden name in the late 1980s, Vettriano gained recognition in 1989 when two of his works sold on the first day of the Royal Scottish Academy’s exhibition. His best-known painting, *The Singing Butler* (1992), became one of the UK’s top-selling prints. Though commercially successful, his work has drawn mixed reviews from critics.
