Klee, Paul
PAUL KLEE Main Path and Byways, 1990
This abstract work is considered one of Klee's most significant "stripe paintings," composed of horizontal and vertical compartments of color that create a sense of perspective.
The piece was heavily influenced by Klee's trip to Egypt in 1928, with the central "highway" often interpreted as representing the Nile river, surrounded by smaller byways.
It is currently part of the collection at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany.
