This original exhibition poster was produced in 1979 for a presentation of paintings by MC Devitt, organized by the influential curator and gallerist Cérès Franco at Galerie L’Œil de Bœuf, located at 58 rue Quincampoix in Paris’s historic Marais district. The exhibition ran from May 7 through May 31, 1979, during a vibrant period of artistic experimentation within the Parisian contemporary art scene.

Cérès Franco (1926–2021) was widely recognized for championing independent and avant-garde artists outside traditional academic movements, and her exhibitions often introduced audiences to bold, unconventional voices. Posters issued under her direction are increasingly appreciated today not only as promotional materials but as authentic cultural documents reflecting the dynamic energy of late-20th-century Parisian art.

Printed in the pre-digital poster era, this piece exemplifies the craftsmanship and tactile quality characteristic of exhibition posters produced before computerized design and printing processes. Intended for public display, surviving examples remain scarce, particularly in well-preserved condition.

Today, the poster stands as both an artwork and an historical artifact — capturing a moment when galleries, artists, and collectors connected through printed ephemera that has since become highly collectible in its own right.

Framing available upon request.

About the Artist

Mike McDevitt

Michael “MC” Devitt was an artist active in the Paris contemporary art scene during the 1970s, associated with exhibitions organized by the influential curator and gallerist Cérès Franco. Although biographical documentation on the artist remains limited, Devitt is believed to have been part of the international group of independent painters working in France during this period, many of whom operated outside traditional academic and institutional frameworks. Devitt exhibited at Galerie L’Œil de Bœuf in Paris in 1979 under the direction of Cérès Franco, a curator known for championing self-taught and non-conformist artists whose practices emphasized expressive freedom and experimentation. His work reflects the spirit of alternative artistic production that characterized parts of the Paris art world in the late twentieth century.
