Original Exhibition Poster, Galerie J.M. Cupillard, Grenoble, April 1983.

This original exhibition poster was produced for a solo presentation of works by J. N. Zanetti at Galerie J.M. Cupillard in Grenoble in April 1983.

The image presents a dynamic urban scene animated by cinematic energy, depicting a filmmaker in action alongside a moving figure set against an architectural backdrop. Executed through expressive layered drawing and vibrant color accents, the composition merges elements of illustration, narrative painting, and graphic design, reflecting the renewed interest in figuration that characterized European art of the early 1980s.

The gestural lines and fragmented perspective evoke the visual language of Neo-Expressionism while drawing inspiration from contemporary film culture and media imagery. Printed in the pre-digital poster era, the poster exemplifies the bold experimentation of gallery graphics during this period, functioning both as promotional material and as an autonomous artwork.

Today, the poster stands as a vivid document of regional French gallery culture and the expressive artistic revival of the 1980s.

About the Artist

Jean-Noel Zanetti

Jean-Noël Zanetti, known professionally as J. N. Zanetti, is a French artist active primarily during the late 1970s and 1980s. Working within the renewed figurative movement that emerged in Europe following the conceptual art period of the 1970s, Zanetti developed a practice centered on drawing, painting, and graphic imagery influenced by contemporary urban culture and cinema. Exhibiting in regional French galleries — including Galerie J.M. Cupillard in Grenoble — Zanetti’s work reflects the expressive energy characteristic of early-1980s European figuration. His compositions often combine dynamic line work, architectural settings, and narrative elements drawn from modern life, creating images that blur the boundaries between painting, illustration, and cinematic storytelling. Although not widely documented in institutional publications, Zanetti participated in the vibrant network of independent galleries that supported emerging contemporary artists outside the major Parisian market. Surviving exhibition posters and gallery materials remain important records of his artistic activity during this period.
