About the Artist

Walton Ford

Walton Ford (b. 1960) is an American artist known for his naturalist-style paintings and prints, often depicting extinct species. His works combine meticulous depictions of flora and fauna with symbolic references to colonialism, industrialism, politics, and the environment. Influenced by his childhood experiences in Canada's wilderness and the underground cartoons of the 1960s, particularly Robert Crumb, Ford's paintings offer complex allegories that critique history and human impact on nature. He earned a BFA in Filmmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design and had his first major solo show at the Brooklyn Museum in 2006.
