About the Artist

Karel Appel

Christiaan Karel Appel was a Dutch painter whose vibrant and color laden canvases are seen as some of the most vibrant hallmarks of postwar European art that rejuvenated European (and Dutch) art. His work has been exhibited in major museums around the world, among them the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Tate Gallery in London. Even though the COBRA members only exhibited together during the 1950‘s, today the CoBrA-museum in Amstelveen opened in 1995, showcases the works of the group throughout the years of its developments and the developments of all its artists.
