About the Artist
Davis Cone
Davis Cone (b.1950) has come to be known as one of the masters of 20th Century Photorealism. His chosen subject, Art Deco movie theaters of the United States, have placed him in the unique position of both artist and chronicler of a vanishing aspect of American culture, the movie house. Showcasing the neon lights and architectural grandeur of his subjects as well as their surroundings, Cone depicts the bustling avenues of America’s metropolises as well as the tranquil calm of its rural main streets via the lens of the movie theater marquee.
