About the Artist
Jackson Pollock
Jackson Pollock (1912–1956) was an American painter and a key figure in abstract expressionism. He studied in New York under Thomas Hart Benton, whose influence was more about technique and independence than subject matter. Pollock became famous for his unique drip painting style, especially during his "drip period" from 1947 to 1950. Known for his reclusive nature and struggles with alcoholism, he gained national fame after a 1949 Life magazine feature. His wife, artist Lee Krasner, played a crucial role in shaping his artistic development and modernizing his approach.
