Original exhibition poster for “Bicentennial Dawn,” created by Louise Nevelson in 1976, marking her contribution to the United States Bicentennial celebrations. The poster features a striking monochrome photograph of one of Nevelson’s monumental sculptural environments—an immersive landscape of towering, interlocking assemblages that reflects her mastery of sculptural space, light, and shadow.

Rendered in Nevelson’s signature palette of unified tones, the image emphasizes her architectural approach to sculpture, where found wood elements are transformed into rhythmic, cathedral-like constructions. The bold typography in deep rose contrasts with the sculptural composition, creating a powerful visual statement that is both historic and unmistakably modern.

Published in conjunction with the Bicentennial exhibition, this poster stands as an authentic artifact of Nevelson’s legacy—celebrating her status as one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century and one of the defining voices in American modernism. It remains a rare and collectible piece for admirers of Nevelson's work, American art history, and museum-quality vintage posters.

About the Artist

Louise Nevelson

Louise Nevelson (1899–1988) was an influential American sculptor known for her large-scale abstract works made from discarded wood and objects. Born in Ukraine and raised in the U.S., she studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Design. Nevelson gained recognition in the 1950s for her unique, monochromatic sculptures, often painted black, white, or gold. Her work, associated with Abstract Expressionism, transformed found materials into monumental, wall-mounted installations. In 1967, she became the first woman to have a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Nevelson's legacy continues to inspire the world of modern sculpture.
